Take a Dip on Iceland’s Blue Lagoon
Posted by Jess Dayuno on 7th November 2008
The water is so blue that it is just appropriate that the owners named it as Blue Lagoon. Quite fascinating though is that this warm lake is located in Iceland which by the name itself, you will be wondering how they could have a place like this.
It is an artificial lake heated by a geothermal power station. Although, if you think it that way, you may find it quite unappealing but I tell you it is far from what you are thinking. Forget how the water is being heated or the geothermal power plant, focus on the beauty of the lake and the amenities the spa resort has and you will have a grand relaxing, soothing experience.
The good thing about this lake is that it is forever hot no matter what the season is especially if you consider the local climate in Iceland. The water is not just hot; it has minerals on it that is very good on our bodies. By the way, when I say dip in the waters, I literally mean it. The lagoon is quite shallow and swimming will not be as comfortable to some.
Anyway, the purpose of the lagoon is really to relax in it and not swim vigorously. Some are even happy by just standing in the hot water. It is quite indescribable to be in a hot water while in a chilly environment. There are even parts of the lagoon that is boiling but don’t worry most parts of the lagoon has the perfect temperature for everyone to enjoy. Don’t you forget to go under the huge waterfalls to have that invigorating experience.
Aside from the hot lagoon, the beauty treatments you will get from the spa resort are quite amazing. One of them is the silica mud masks they offer and silica salt massage therapy.
They also offer accomodation not only for those who seek treatment but also for those non-treatment guests. The rooms are located at the Blue Lagoon - Clinic which is around 5 minutes away from the lagoon. Around this season, a room will cost between ISK 11,900 to ISK 15,900.
It is a little bit expensive for just an artificial Icelandic geothermal lagoon but the Blue Lagoon is quite exceptional and it offers something unique for all the tourists. Most Icelandic visitors usually stop by at this luxurious spa resort.
